Summer is just around the corner. That means barbecues, late night bonfires, s’more roasting and fireworks are all headed our way. The kids will be out of school, it will be family vacation time and life will hopefully be a bit more relaxed.
How wonderful it is that we get to enjoy the exciting activities of summer. What about our pets, though? Will they be able to partake in any fun summer activities?
If you want to spend a lot of time with your furry friend this summer but are not quite sure where to begin, don’t worry. We have a list below of six fun things to do with your pet this summer that your cat or dog might just love.
Go On Vacation
With my pet? That’s right! There are more than a few pet friendly hotels dotted throughout the U.S. Why not try a new vacation spot this summer? Not only will it be a fun adventure for you and your family, but your cat or dog is sure to be just as thrilled to get out of the house and experience something new.
Take Your Dog To The Dog Park
Allowing your dog to roam free at the dog park can be a great way to exercise your dog, let him get out some of his energy, and socialize with other dogs. This is a great way for you to socialize, too. If starting conversations is not what you’re best at, having dogs in common will be a great conversation starter and sustainer. Enjoy social time for you and your pet.
Build Your Cat A Tree House
Seriously, this is totally possible and totally cool. This activity is also generally best for those who have a creative side and like to work with power tools. If your cat has been itching for that scratching post, play house or jungle gym but you just can’t bring yourself around to buy it, try building one yourself. You will need some plywood, a drill, stapler, some carpet and more. To get a complete list of the materials you will need and an instruction manual, click here.
If you’re not having much luck finding a hotel that welcomes pets, or if you prefer camping, why not bring your pet along with you? The great outdoors can be a wonderful place for young puppies and older dogs alike to explore and have lots of space to play frisbee with you.
Take Your Furry Friends Shopping
Why not do something special for your pet this summer and treat him or her to a nice little treat? Many pet stores welcome pets inside, so try bringing your dog or cat with you to explore the aisles and find a special toy or tasty treat your friend can enjoy. I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! While ice cream should not be a daily part of your pet’s diet, most dogs are able to handle a kiddie cup of vanilla frozen yogurt every now and again. However, you should always check with your vet before giving your pet ice cream if she or he has never had it before. Cats are typically lactose intolerant, but you can always make your cat a popsicle. Online, there are many different ideas and recipes for making popsicles and frozen treats for cats, but again, make sure to check with your vet first to make sure that it is okay. Besides, what better way is there to celebrate summer than with some ice cream or popsicles?
